Anyone in the world By Faithe Thomas They call it harmattan. A tan colored fog moves south from the Sahara Desert, on past the coast of Ghana, taking up to two months to pass any one point. One day it is clear and sunny, and of course hot and humid. The next day it is dry, cooler, and dirty. The dust affects everything, nothing can escape its residue. It is impossible to keep at bay - within an hour of dusting, it looks just as it did before. Harmattan casts a shadow over the city. Often it is so thick that you cannot see across the yard or down the street. You can stare directly at the sun, which looks more like the moon. Harmattan always causes a somber mood in me. It reminds me of my own heart. One day it is clear and clean before God, on fire for Him. The next day it is dry and cool toward Him, covered by dust. The light of the fire within me is dulled just as the sun is during harmattan. I puzzle over my fickleness. I try to pray. I feel like God is far away. But God is not the One who moves. I pray again, asking for God to show me the sin that is blocking His light and covering my soul. Oh the sin that casts the shadow over my heart! God is faithful. The sin is always found, and then confessed. God always forgives and cleanses. And once again the harmattan of my heart goes away. ---- Faithe Finley Thomas lived as a missionary in Ghana, West Africa for six years. Anyone in the world By Jed Baguio 1. Fried Foods That Are Frightening Deep fried foods are nutritionally bad for you. But the only thing you are going to create is havoc with your weight loss diet. 2. Steakhouse Stories That Scare Your local neighborhood restaurant or steakhouse may be a Nutritional Nightmare. Fried onions that are considered a Starter Dish are so full of Calories, Fat, and Saturated Fat and with a high Salt content. For the sake of your health, be sure you know your onions. 3. Manufacturers Mislead Many Foods that are often labeled as healthy are just the opposite. Dont believe the adverts, read the labels carefully then decide for yourself if its right for you. 4. Burgers That Are Bigger and Biggest Burgers are getting bigger and bigger. If you really do want a burger, try ordering a plain burger. It could be served with a sauce, but it should be on the side not on top.
That will save you eating more Calories than you need. 5. Awful Appetizers How about a Fundido as a snack before the main meal? A Fundido is made up of a combination of cheese, pepperoni, bacon and sausage served with bread sticks. If you are on a weight loss diet, a Fundido is a nutritional no-no. 6. Cakes and Cookies That Are Calorie Clogged You are tempted to have a square of Starbucks Old Fashioned Crumb Cake but that little square has 670 Calories in it. Nice for a treat once a year, but for the rest of the year DONT. 7. Diet Drinks That Deceive High Calorie drinks are so deceptive. To avoid piling on the Calories, order a small size cup of coffee with low fat milk and sweeteners. 8. High Calorie Horrors When you are out shopping at the Mall you may be tempted by the delicious aromas of coffees, spicy pies and the mouth watering smell of freshly made doughnuts. But giving in to temptation could mean you may consume a days worth of Calories in one delicious but none essential piece of confectionery. 9. Diet Disasters When Dining Out Two decades ago, dining out was already beginning to be a disaster for the person who was on a weight loss diet. The menu offered high Calorie foods. Things havent improved over the years; in fact they have become worse. In order to keep to your diet change into a fluffy bunny rabbit and talk yourself into eating and enjoying salads. 10. Super Sized Servings That Sabotage Your Diet Have you noticed how its not just fast food meals that have got bigger? So have bagels, pasta servings, salads and sandwiches. If you go out to a restaurant for a meal, most of the meals on the menu are going to be around 1000 Calories. If you want to keep to your weight loss diet, learn what foods are best for you and avoid the ones that sabotage it. Anyone in the world By Carrie Lauth I'm loving my new laminate floors! I've found that cleaning them is easy but not quite as simple as dusting and dampmopping. They will dry kind of streaky if I don't use a small bit of some kind of cleanser that evaporates quickly. So now I either sweep with a broom or dustmop with a dry microfibre mop, then I use a wet microfiber cloth on the mop to mop the floors. I lightly spray a touch of Seventh Generation Glass & Surface Cleaner to spots or when the mop gets too dry. It also helps to mop in the direction of the grain and not in circles or figure 8s like you might with vinyl or tile. I searched around online and found tips from other laminate floor owners on how to clean laminate flooring: Try a damp mop wrung out with very hot water, it evaporates better.
Try a vinegar/water solution.
Check with the manufacturer's recommendation: mine recommended a damp plain water mop but as I mentioned, that wasn't effective for me. Some manufacturers make their own floor cleaners.
A wet Swiffer cloth works well for some.
Don't use a soap based or citrus oil product, they don't clean laminate well or could even damage the shiny finish.
Don't use any type of abrasive cleaner.
If a stain is resistant you can try a tiny bit of acetone. Hope that helps. Enjoy your new laminate floors! Trying to decide on flooring? Anyone in the world By Dr. Alan Jenks I know you are probably thinking you dont need to be reading another article on exercising to lose weight. The more I remind patients the more I am blown away at how many choose not to do it. We were recently at a Health Fair. Most of the booths were selling nutritional products to keep you healthy. We were overwhelmed at how many overweight individuals were representing these nutritional companies. They all had the latest and greatest nutrition to take, but couldn't realize that the best nutrition in the world won't help if you are still overweight. What most of them had in common was they did not exercise enough. Exercise has to be part of every single day. Find an activity you enjoy, running, biking, swimming, and do it 7 times a week. Walking just doesn't cut it anymore unless you can raise your heart rate to a fat burning level. Try this trick; take 180 minus your age and exercise for a 1/3 of your time at that heart rate level. Here is how it works. If you are 30 years of age, then your heart rate needs to be 180-30, which is 150 beats per minute. Spend 45-60 a day exercising. Warm up to150 beats per minute for the first third of your exercise. Exercise at 150 beats per minute for the second third of exercise, and cool down to a resting rate for the second third of exercise. Take the next couple of weeks to get into the habit of finding time each day that you can exercise. Calculate your heart rate (180-age). Get use to taking your heart rate at the wrist. It will take a good week to get use to keeping your body in that optimal heart rate for 15 minutes, so take your time and enjoy in an activity that you like. Studies show that 90% of people, who exercise consistently, exercise in the morning. As well as helping maintain the regularity of your exercise program, a morning routine has the following additional benefits: 1. It keeps your metabolism elevated for hours. 2. You will find energy for the rest of the day. 3. If you exercise in the morning you will find you eat less. 4. Exercising in the morning also helps to balance the endocrine systems, which helps with happy hormones 5. You will eventually find it is easier to wake up. 6. You will be more mentally alert. 8. A morning routine helps keep you exercising even when you are busy The real question you should ask yourself is just how badly you want to lose weight. If your Why is bad enough then exercise will be part of your life and just commit yourself to exercising in the morning. Anyone in the world By Allison Thompson For many antique collectors the taking care of their collection is very important to them. For some who have inherited a lovely collection of heirlooms, yet do not have any idea of how to look after them or even keeping up with the collection they already have as well as they should. By caring for these items correctly they will benefit from them in the future, as not only can they be passed on to their loved ones or they can be sold at a higher value in the future if so wished. Below it provided some tips for which you should be able to care for your antiques and collectibles. There are many sites where you should be able to obtain more detailed information on how to look after your priceless treasures. Firstly, we will look at caring for glass, porcelain or pottery antiques. Any items like these should be washed individually in a wash basin to prevent any damage (such as chipping). You should only ever wash them in warm water never hot or cold and with a gentle cleaner using a soft bristled brush. One thing you should NEVER do is put your antique glass, pottery or porcelain in a dishwasher (the extreme heat and detergent used can be extremely harmful). Also always allow each item to dry naturally and do not use a cloth on them to dry them. Next we need to consider how you should display and store your collection. If you have a home where there are young children or generally lots of visitors then make sure that your glass, pottery and porcelain collections are kept in a safe place (cabinet) well away from the main flow of traffic in the house. Do not put the collection on shelves on walls, it only takes one small vibration to occur whether some one accidentally knocks against the shelf or some one knocks against the wall the shelf is on could mean the loss of your collection. Now we will look at how to look after antique rugs and textiles. Any rugs or textiles that you have will need specialist care when either moving, storing or cleaning them. It is quite easy to cause damage (such as tearing) to occur when you move such items as the material they are made from is very delicate and so you make sure you move them slowly and carefully. If you must roll up an antique rug then ensure that the pile of the rug is facing outwards as this will prevent any damage or crushing to the item. Any antique garments that you have should at all times be hung on sturdy hangers and then covered in white cotton or rolled up using an acid free paper and then closed at either end and tied securely. You can vacuum rugs and textiles, but only use a very low setting and always take extra care when you are vacuuming any textiles as you do not want to end up the suction being strong and causing fibers to be pulled apart. If you do happen to spill anything on the rug, then put white paper towels underneath the rug and above where the spill has occurred and replace them until no more liquid comes out. Should it be required, then contact an expert who will be able to clean it correctly. Also remember to keep an eye on the rug or textile and avoid it being exposed directly to either sun or humidity. If you happened to have collected antique or collectible furniture you will need to dust it usually only a soft lint free cloth. Any wooden antique furniture that you have should be waxed usually only a quality bees wax and where at all possible avoid placing any furnishings in bright light or in to rooms which experience extreme changes in temperature or humidity as they will also cause damage. When moving antique furniture carry it out with extreme care never dragging, but always ensure that the furniture is lifted. Many people find that having a valuable collection of either antiques or collectibles is a privilege and by ensuring that they take proper care of them will not only help to increase their value but it also means that they can be passed down from generation to generation. Anyone in the world By Samantha Taylor It is the maid of honor's duty to organize the bridal shower and to ensure that the party is everything the bride expected. The best way to ensure that everyone will have fun is to create a theme around the bridal shower in which everyone can participate in. The following is a list of fun and exciting themes for bridal showers. Choose the one that suits the bride the best:
Lingerie Bridal Shower The lingerie theme has become more and more popular in recent years. This type of shower is typically for a younger bride who will be comfortable with the risqu nature of a lingerie bridal shower. Each guest, in lieu of bringing a traditional wedding shower gift, will bring a piece of lingerie for the bride. The groom will reap the benefits of a lingerie shower as well. Chances are the gifts will be put to great use on the honeymoon. Gourmet Bridal Shower A gourmet bridal shower is perfect for brides who love to cook and sample different kinds of food. Instead of serving traditional snacks like cheese and crackers, ask each guest to bring a gourmet-related dish. Sending out invitations in the shape of foods or hand deliver invitations in an apron to add a little extra pizzazz to your shower. Around-the-Clock Bridal Shower This is a relatively new bridal shower theme. It requires each guest to bring a gift that the bride and groom can use at a specific point throughout the day. For example, on one person's invitation it might read 3pm; while on another's it may read 1am. The gifts are distributed clockwise according to the hours each guest is assigned. Room-of-the-House Bridal Shower Similar to the around-the-clock theme listed above; this theme requires each guest to bring a gift in relation to a specific room in the house. One guest might be assigned the kitchen; while another might receive the bedroom. Each guest would have to choose their gift pertaining to the room on the invitation. Stock the Bar - This theme requires each guest to bring wine, beer, spirits or liquor; which the couple can use to stock their bar at home. You may want to assign each guest a different kind of liquor to ensure that the couple doesn't end up with 10 bottles of tequila!
The bridal shower theme you choose will have a great impact on the success of your bridal shower. Make sure the theme is suitable for the personality of the bride; otherwise she may be disappointed with the outcome. Also take into consideration the types of gifts the couple could most use. If they already have a stocked bar, a stock-the-bar shower won't be a helpful theme. The outcome of this shower may determine whether or not you're ever asked to throw another one. But remember, above all, have fun! Samantha Taylor spent several years working in the weddings industry as a wedding planner. When she isn't being a mom of two wonderful children, she works as a freelance writer for http://www.yourwedding101.com - a site that offers information about everything wedding related - from ways to propose to renting a wedding dress and more. Anyone in the world By Marius Bezuidenhout Organic food is generally considered to be produced without the use of artificial fertilisers, without synthetic pesticides or antibiotics, hormones or other growth promoters. There are thus standards to which organic food is produced, traditionally on small family run farms, but there are some larger operations emerging since evidence has emerged that organic farming is more environmentally friendly and more sustainable that many contemporary farming techniques. There are also benefits for the people who eat organic farm produce. The advantages of organic food for the consumer include higher nutritional levels, and over the long term studies have found the health benefits to be substantial. It is perhaps for this reason that organic baby food has become very popular. A university of Washington study found that preschool children fed regular diets had six times more metabolised organophosphate pesticides in their bodies than children who had been fed on organic diets. Organic fruit vegetables and juices as a part of a healthy balanced diet can considerably reduce exposure to harmful pesticides. When shopping for organic foods to complete the cooking formulas of your favourite organic food recipes, look out for the organic certification of a product. The certification of organic food is done to protect the consumer in the growing market for organic foods. This prevents a producer from defrauding a consumer, or tricking you into eating what you dont want to. There are, however, various certification bodies with different criteria, so this should be kept in mind. Also remember that the certification of a product is primarily a marketing drive by the producer, who is trying to get you to buy the product. When visiting an organic food shop, sometimes called a health food store, you will notice that the prices seem slightly inflated. These organic food suppliers ask more for their products because most of the time the farm that supplies them is a small scale operation. This means that the cost cutting benefits of mass production are usually not applicable to organic foods. Consumers who value the ethics and benefits of organic food are usually willing to pay a bit extra for their organic groceries. In the United States the sales in organic foods have increased between 17 and 20 percent over the past few years, while so called conventional products have seen a considerably lesser growth of 2 to 3 percent over the same period. There has even been an increasing trend amongst those who enjoy spoiling their pets to such a degree that they are bying organic dog food. According to the Organic Trade Association, sales in organic pet foods have risen to three times the growth rate of organic products made for human consumption. Anyone in the world By J Lewis The origins of the Celts dates back to prehistoric times when they emerged as a
group of loosely knit tribes with a common culture and language. Celtic settlements stretched from Turkey and the Balkans right across Western
Europe. But it was the rise of the Roman Empire that would expose the lack of
cohesion between the various Celtic tribes and would lead to them being overrun,
expelled from their territories and being pushed back to the western fringes of the
continent. Although the ancient Celts flourished across Europe, it is in Ireland where their
traditions have been most preserved. One aspect of this culture that still survives today is the artwork and this is most
commonly seen in jewellery such as celtic wedding rings. Their artwork was believed to be very symbolic often being based on nature using
images of birds and animals and fish. The Celts believed firmly in the
interconnectedness of all life and produced the familiar Celtic Knots, which are
interlaced patterns with no beginning and no end. Although perhaps the true significance of these patterns has been lost over the
millennia, Celtic designs remain increasingly popular in our modern world. The Claddagh is a traditional symbol of love and friendship and is thought to have
originated from Claddagh in Galway as far back as the 16th century since when has
been worn by many as a wedding ring and as a symbol of love. The design of the Claddagh consists of a heart as a symbol of love, a crown as a
symbol of fidelity or loyalty and the hands depicted friendship. Tradition states that
if you are spoken to you should wear the Claddagh on your left hand facing inward
but if you are unattached it should be worn facing outward on the right hand. Celtic crosses, which predate Christianity, can symbolize the four quarters of the
earth and or the four elements earth wind and fire. They are equal armed crosses
which are enclosed or backed by a circle. Following the introduction of Christianity,
it became more common to see Celtic Crosses on top of a matching pedestal, which
gave it a more elongated look. Celtic crosses are often worn as jewellery such as
rings or on chains around the neck. Geometric designs have always feature prominently in Celtic artwork with spirals,
chevrons, scrolls and knot work. Many of these patterns can be seen decorating stone carvings or ancient manuscripts and religious books. The Celtic spirals are very symbolic with the single spiral generally thought to
signify growth expansion and cosmic energy. The dual centred spiral found often on stone carvings signifies duality and nature
and is associated with motifs from other cultures such as the Ying Yang symbol.
Celtic knot work designs remain popular today and can vary from single elegant
knot patterns to complex intricate interlaced patterns. Although the symbolism of celtic designs may have been lost, many of the designs
remain popular today and will often be seen used in the design of jewellery and in
particular Celtic Wedding rings. Written by John Lewis of Love2Have who specialise in traditional gold celtic wedding rings handcrafted in the UK. Anyone in the world By Mike Jones Never use the old-fashioned switch-blade razor. It is quite
unsuitable for pubic hair removal and can be dangerous. Choose a female razor, obtainable from Wilkinson Sword or
other well known razor manufacturers, rather than an
ordinary safety razor. The design makes it much more
difficult to cut yourself. Opt for a more expensive good quality razor rather than a
cheap throw away which is more likely to cause nicks,
soreness and razor burns in this sensitive area. If the pubic hair is thick and long use small scissors to
trim down the hair to about a quarter of an inch. This will
avoid blunting and clogging the razor too quickly. Wet a large, washcloth and lay it over the entire pubic area
for two or three minutes. Alternatively, take a long hot bath or stay in the shower
for a while making sure the pubic area receives a lot of
water. Pubic hair is coarser than head hair and needs more
time to soften when carrying out pubic hair removal. Apply plenty of shaving foam or gel over the area and leave
for a few minutes to soften further. Ordinary soap is not
suitable as it does not lock in the moisture to the hair the
way a shaving preparation cream or gel does. Experiment with different brands if you find some cause skin
irritation. They contain various chemicals and you need to
find one that suits you. Pull the skin straight with your free hand and shave without
applying pressure. Shave upwards against the direction of the hair growth. Make sure there is shaving foam on the skin each time you
make a stroke with the razor. Shaving bare skin can cause razor burn and can be especially
painful in pubic hair removal. Rinse the razor every couple of strokes as it will clog
easily. Rinse off and see any areas that may have been missed and
again apply gel to that area and shave. Massage unscented Vitamin E oil into the pubic area after
shaving. To stop or reduce itching after shaving rub an ice cube over
the area. Alternatively, rub a little baby oil into the pubic area. If you suffer from itchiness or blood spots, let the hair
grow back for a week before shaving again. Keep the shaven area well moisturized between shaves by
using a skin moisturizer or baby lotion. This will reduce
the uncomfortable effect the stubble may cause between
shaves. Recommendation: Apply Kalo Hair Inhibitor after each shaving session to significantly reduce hair growth. The hair that grows back becomes finer and softer making hair removal easier.
