Backyard Bird--The Catbird
by minette prada - Saturday, 8 December 2007, 06:12 AM
Anyone in the world
By Gary Machado It's quiet now. Gone is the constant chatter, whistles and meowing sounds as you jump from branch to branch safeguarding your territory against all trespassers. Gone too is the uniform gray body offset with the black cap and tail feathers, with just a smidgen of rust coloration under the tail coverts, that allows you to blend in with your natural habitat of dense udergrowth and thickets. They call you a skulker, a bird hard to see in the dense underbrush. Usually heard but now seen. Definitely NOT a backyard bird. Except in my backyard. Maybe it's because my back yard is filled with trees and dense undergrowth along the rear and side fences. Or maybe it's because there is a wooded area of trees and underbrush in the low-lying parcel of land across the street. Or maybe it's because of a reason I can't fully understand. I know you don't stay becasue of my bird feeders, because you don't have birdseed in you diet. You prefer insects, spiders and fruit berries instead. But whatever the reason, I'm grateful. I'm grateful that you have chosen my yard as your place to breed and have chicks. And not just this year. But last year too. Definitely unusual. I'm delighted to watch you jump and fly from one low hanging branch to another, or from one small tree to another, constantly chattering or meowing your right of territory. But I never did get to see your mate's nest. You never led me there. So I don't know how many chicks you fledged and whether they all survived. But it's late summer now. And it's quiet again. Are you already heading south on your long migration journey? To southern Florida? Or Texas? Or even to eastern Mexico? I understand that for this trip, you've teamed up with some other catbirds, so that you are in a group of a dozen or so. For protection? For guidance? Whatever the reason, I hope your migration south and your return next year is successful. I would really like it if you or one of your chicks return to my yard. I look forward to your whistles and meowing as you defend your territory and build your nest. But until next year, "skulker" catbird, Goodbye... Big Hitters to Avoid in Your Relationship (3)
by minette prada - Thursday, 6 December 2007, 08:37 PM
Anyone in the world
By Elaine Sihera A. Conflict with Relatives. This occurs most frequently when one spouse remains dependent on her parents for money or emotional support or another is too weak to defend his family against undue interference from his parents. Interfering relatives are always a problem for new couples trying to make their own life in their own way and with little experience. The new couple does not really want to cause antagonism by being impolite to their loved ones, as they would value any advice or expertise, especially when they ask for it and it isn't imposed. But they have to do things their way to learn about life. Young couples setting out on their own exciting journey cannot live their lives entirely according to someone else's expectation or as a mirror to someone elses relationship. They have to find their own course and establish their own values and boundaries in their own time, regardless of the obstacles. Unless both parties show confidence and faith in each other at the early stages, and defend one another from interfering relatives, the problem will inevitably escalate, leaving one partner always feeling isolated, unsupported and powerless. For example, my ex-husband is an Indian Sikh. Some of my newly acquired relatives were so racist, it took the patience of the biblical Job to actually deal with them. Up to the time I left my home, 33 years after my marriage, one of my husbands sisters in Birmingham never visited us once because I was Black and she did not want her friends knowing we were related! But then, she was only following their fathers example. After his young sons death, I felt very pleased to read a poem for him in the local temple on the day of the funeral. However, I learnt later what the father had told other members of his family that very day. He said that, while he appreciated the poem, he did not like the fact that I read it in the temple where everyone could see I was Black! He would also prefer it if I did not come to the house during the day, only at night. This was after 28 years of being married to his son, with me mistakenly believing I was a family member by then. Discriminatory Behaviour The most hurtful thing to me was that not one of the relatives present thought his comments were wrong. Fearing him, they simply accepted what he said without questioning the morality of it. He was old so his actions could be excused. But there is no excuse for racism or any other kind of prejudice. In fact, it took my husband a very long time to accept that some of his relatives were racist, which made me feel even more isolated and low in esteem, but exceedingly proud of who I was and deeply resistant to their discriminatory behaviour. However, it felt like a long, lonely battle, with me on one side and the family on the other, trying to validate who I was when I was not seeking anyones permission to be Black. It was interesting to see that, after I left home, not a single one of them contacted me, not even those who used to tell me how much they cared for me! It was as if I were invisible. I was disappointed, but not too surprised. It is difficult for superficial, uncaring and racist people to behave otherwise. B. Chauvinism and Controlling Gender Roles. This includes a my way or else approach, insecurity, possessiveness, a desire for perfection and trying to change your partner. Wanting things to be a certain way and having preferences are completely natural and even healthy. However, when this tendency becomes extreme and starts to encroach on the rights, needs and desires of others, it can cause major havoc. Where there is no equality in a relationship, there is no respect. Instead, there is usually a passive, fearful doormat who allows her/himself to be walked upon. Both parties to a relationship have equal rights, regardless of the division of labour and the nature of their careers. Both enhance one another, thus teamwork should be paramount. Freedom of will and self-determination are basic needs. When these are being threatened, negative reactions may include anger, resentment, and/or rebellion. One person should not be taking advantage of the other in domestic matters or in sexual expectations. The relationship can only survive through both people working in tandem, otherwise it will fall apart at the first opportunity mainly through resentment and lack of respect. If the need to control is a problem in your relationship, identify the motivation behind it and work towards dealing with those issues rather than imposing your will on your partner. From Corn Flakes to Combined Annuities - Women Make the Buying Decisions

Anyone in the world
By Doug Emerson Details, details, details. They usually bore us men to tears or sleep. Here are some details you won't cry or snooze over when you read them. We are asleep at the advertising and marketing switch if we ignore this freight train of information about how women think and make decisions. The five stages of the buying process: 1. Deciding to buy. Women usually make the decision it's time to buy. 2. Research. Women "shop" the market for possibilities, eliminating the non-contenders. 3. Purchase. Women usually close the sale alone (with exception of car purchases) by making the deal. 4. Maintenance. 83% of household finances are handled by women. If they don't like the attitude, treatment or "feel" of the company, they will fire the company. 5. Referral. Women are much more likely to provide referrals. In insurance, over the lifetime of a customer, a woman provides on average 28 referrals, vs. 13 for men. Did you catch the word women in each of the five stages above? The points are taken from an interview by Tom Peters with Martha Barletta author of "Marketing to Women." This shouldn't be a shock, men, but I want to remind you that women notice more things than men. As examples, women notice the belt loop you missed when you got dressed, the look the clerk at the hardware store gave to her, the tone of the teller at the bank. They also notice the grime on the office entry door, the fact that the salesman directs his sales pitch to the male in the couple and that car repair guy has no patience to explain the problem. Guys, here is the one thing that I want you to notice. Take a deep breath, focus and read the following sentence. Women are the primary customers for your goods or services. Wouldn't it make sense to spend some time and money to do a better job marketing to them? That doesn't mean we have to enroll in sensitivity school. (although this might not be a bad idea) It does not mean that we have to create new products or services just for women. Here is what you can do: 1. Recognize and track your female customers who make 85 % of all household purchases. 2. Refocus your advertising and marketing efforts to women when appropriate. 3. Reward referrals since women's word of mouth endorsements will carry much credibility to the listener. Track where the referrals come from and say thank you. 4. A small gesture of a hand written thank you or gift box of hand soap will create a mountain of good will. Guys, there is more material than ever available on the web and in books and magazines on marketing to women . . .pay attention, are you listening?. . . get the details working for you. How to Interpret Signs and Symbols on Yarn Label Correctly
by minette prada - Wednesday, 5 December 2007, 02:24 AM
Anyone in the world
By Balajee Bashyaam Crocheting is nothing but a needle work where the loops of a single thread are interlocked with the help of the hook. Crocheting differs from knitting [looping of yarn using machine or hand], sewing [tightening the stitches with thread and needle], quilting [creating lines or patterns through different layers of cloth] and embroidering [working raised designs on cloth or leather]. Crocheting believed to be in existence right from 18 Th century onwards. Knitting is believed to have existed prior to crocheting [i.e. 15 Th century onwards]. Crocheting was not gaining popularity till 18 Th century because it needed more thread to create the fabric compared with the techniques like sprang nalbinding and knitting that were popular at that time. At that period crocheting was considered more like a hobby than the job or function. In order to master crocheting we should learn to interpret the symbols and signs on yarn label correctly. Yarns are nothing but various types of fibers that are spun together. The fibers can be from plant [cotton] or from animal origin [wool]. The fibers can also be synthetic materials such as acrylic and nylon. These yarns are coming in different sizes and weights to meet the demand from the crotchetier. If you are beginner for crocheting it is better to select a yarn that is having smooth surface and medium twist. Yarns are usually marked by its length and not by its weight. The yarns in general are rolled and packed in to balls. Based on the fiber composition and the thickness, the length of the yarn will vary. The wool is the most preferred yarn because of its ability to stretch. Silk is the other yarn that is being used very extensively. The main disadvantage of the silk is its cost. The resilience of the silk is relatively less when compared with the wool. Nylon, polyester and acrylic are the other yarns that are used for crocheting. These are synthetic yarns produced from petroleum products. These yarns are not costly. These yarns dont shrink. These yarns can be washed by machine and are more stable. The synthetic yarns though they have so many advantages their main disadvantage is change in the shape when they are exposed to high temperature. Hence it is better to select the blended yarn that has both natural and synthetic fibers. Yarns of different weight are available in the market. They are listed below. extra bulky, aran wool, bulky, sport yarn, worsted yarn, aran cotton, sport mercerized cotton, double knitting, viscose rayon, worsted acrylic, linen, metallic viscose and metallic. There in no need to get discouraged or confused as far as reading the yarn sizes are concerned though there are various ways of classifying the yarn. You need apply your mind and understand the classification of yarns in order to make yourself comfortable in selecting the appropriate size of yarn. Here is a classification of the yarn as per the diameter of the yarn. Size A these yarns are light as far as weight is concerned. This kind of yarns is used for baby clothes. This type of yarns is best suited for thin socks. Size-B- these yarns are of medium weight. This type of yarns is used for suits, dresses, baby clothes and sweaters that are used in side the house. Size-C- these are knitting yarns. The weight of these yarns is slightly more than the size B yarn. This type of yarns is best suited for mittens, hats, slippers and sweaters that are used for outdoor wear. Size-D- these yarns are bulky. The size and the weight is more than the size C yarn. This type of yarns is ideal for heavy jackets, heavy crafts, and rugs. Size E- these yarns are extra bulky. These yarns are heavier than size D yarn. These yarns can be used only for making rugs. The yarns are also classified based on the number of stitches per four inch swatch [knitting stockinette stitch]. Let us know about them here. Fine there will be 29 t0 32 stitches per four inch, light-there will be 25 to 28 stitches per four inch, medium there will be 21 to 24 stitches per four inch, medium heavy-there will be 17 to 20 stitches per four inch, bulky-there will be 13 to 16 stitches per four inch and extra bulky-there will be to 12 stitches per four inch. Depression, Headaches, and Migraine Care
by minette prada - Monday, 3 December 2007, 11:11 PM

By Rick Cosby Depression is a factor in head aches and is known to change head aches to migraines during a depressed state. When a person is depressed there are a lot of things on his or her mind, and after a while their mind gets crowded with different thoughts and different worries. After this happens the person starts having a head ache, and starts to become more depressed until eventually all that is left in the persons head is depression and pain. The way to prevent this type of head ache is to seek help for your depression. If you try to get help for your head aches then you will continue to have head aches. The way to getting rid of head aches that come from depression is by getting through the depression, which is the underlying cause of the headache. Some people have a hard time getting through depression and so their headaches can become severe, causing extreme pain until they have to take medicine for it. These head aches are similar to migraines, except that they do not last for three days. Head aches caused from depression can also make your eyesight bad, and can even cause your eyes to hurt, and therefore leave you in more pain then you would be in with just the head ache. These types of head aches should be taken seriously and should be reported to your doctor as soon as possible. After you find your way out of depression the head aches will stop affecting you and you will be able to live your life again without having to take medicine and no longer being in pain. Depression is becoming a more common thing in society today, and working your way out of one can be very difficult. Today we know more about depression and there are new medical treatments out for them. Migraine Care Trying natural remedies for migraines can often be helpful and much cheaper than buying medication over the counter or going to the doctor for medication. Trying stress relievers before taking medication may help you to find something that is helpful and better for your body. Taking hot or cold showers with a direct water flow to the area of pain can help relax the muscle tension and relieve you of the migraine often. If the sound of the running water or the pressure of the water flow is too intense, soaking in a luke warm or hot bath with Epsom salt can be helpful. Also try lying down with a wet cloth across your forehead in a dark and quiet room can be very helpful and rid you of your migraine. Sometimes eating something with starch or sugar can help. Low blood sugar can sometimes trigger a migraine even if you feel that you are not hungry. Try these common solutions before trying over the counter medication or going to the doctor. You may be surprised at how easy it is to rid yourself of the pain naturally. Copyright 2006 www.TriggerOptics.com Rick Cosby has a deep practical and theoretical understanding of headaches. How Come Acupuncture Brings Perfect Results For All?
by minette prada - Sunday, 2 December 2007, 11:37 PM
Anyone in the world
By Oliver Turner Acupuncture is the gentle insertion of extremely fine needles at specific points of the body. The theory behind acupuncture is that there are two thousand energy points on the body that are connected by twenty pathways [meridians] running throughout the length of the body. These pathways conduct flow of energy called qi or chi, meaning life force. Blockage of energy in any of these points can cause pain in the body. Acupuncture serves to clear any type of energy blockage in any of the pathways and thus reduce pain effectively. Treatments offered by acupuncture schools All the diseases prevalent in human body are the result of energy blockage in the pathways. So when these blockage points are removed, automatically you will be cured from all types of diseases. During an acupuncture treatment session performed by the acupuncture schools, almost one to twenty metallic needles are inserted into the body. While some of the needles rest on the surface of the skin, the others are inserted from one to several inches into the layers of fats. The needles are kept there in resting position for at least twenty to thirty minutes. The acupuncturists to enhance the reduction in energy blockage often keep jiggling the needles. In certain instances like treating high blood pressure with acupuncture, electrified needles are used for fast and better cure. Often the practitioners also use an amount of burned herbs at the end of the needle to encourage negative energy to leave the body along with the smoke. Acupuncture treatments for back pain, shoulder and neck pain Atlanta schools of acupuncture follow some rigorous acupuncture techniques that promise sure results for all types of diseases. Back pain is a disease that can range from dull ache to a constant sharp pain that leaves people irritated. Even neck and shoulder pains can be equally disgusting as they continue to be acute and stop all your normal activities. Acupressure is a wonderful remedy for back pain, neck and shoulder pain. The practitioner presses some acute points near the meridians of the body with the thumbs and fingertips to reduce pain. With the applied pressure the blocked energy starts flowing and all pains are reduced. Atlanta acupuncture for spinal injury is also effective as the blocked chi or energy in spinal chords gets released with application of acupressure and pains related to spinal injuries gets cured instantly. Acupuncture treatments for smoking and skin diseases Atlanta for stop-quit smoking is also effective, as permanent smokers have known to cease smoking completely with acupuncture. The treatment involves insertion of five needles into the ear [particularly in the cartilage and not in the ear canal] and a few on the hands and wrists. It also involves applying a mixture of oil of cloves and wintergreen extracts of Evodia fruits and Sichuan lovage rhizomes to quit smoking faster. Acupuncture for acne, psoriasis and allergies are an effective treatment, as it reduces the diseases instantly. All these infections are autoimmune systems that occur due to inflammations in the blood vessels. So when the acupressure needles are pricked onto the skin, they are also manipulated through hands by rubbing the acupressure points or the ends of the needles are electrified to produce instant results. Hydroponics Gardening - An Introduction To Hydroponics Gardening For Beginners (Part 10) Nutrients
by minette prada - Tuesday, 27 November 2007, 01:06 AM
Anyone in the world
By John R. Haughton How well do you know your nutrients? There are many different plant nutrients on the hydroponics market today. Their function is to provide the optimum mix of Nitrogen, Phosphorous, Potassium, Calcium and various other trace elements, in order to sustain growth, improve yields and allow the plant to achieve its potential. The plants requirements will vary to some extent as it develops. Concentrations and plant food components may also vary with differing growing mediums. The food is absorbed through the plants roots and transported to the leaves, where it is converted into the sugars that the plant needs for energy. The most important thing to remember about plant nutrition is that the NPK, (Nitrogen, Phosphorous, Potassium) Calcium and trace element ratios are correct. There can be a wide variation of ingredients in the various mixes for sale. Because the plant will take whatever it requires from the elements available and leave the rest, the balance will alter as unused elements build up in the solution. If left unchecked this will result in a toxic build up of salts and a subsequent drop off in growth followed eventually by the death of your, well loved and nurtured, plants. This same result will occur if the water content is not replaced and the mixture strength increases. If the plant transpires 50% of the water from the supply tank, the concentration of elements within the solution will become dangerously high. The concentration of salts in the feeding solution is measured using an Electrical Conductivity (EC) meter. The EC meter measures the strength of the solution in parts per million. This means that in a 1000 PPM solution there are 1,000 units of dissolved salts to every 1,000,000 units of water. The meter measures the total salt concentration in solution and does not discriminate between Potassium salts say and Calcium salts. It cannot tell the difference between a good and a bad mix, only their relative strengths. The EC meter works by measuring the speed at which electrons travel between probes immersed in a solution. In distilled water, the electrons cannot find any impurities to use as footholds to cross the water and so the meter returns a 0 reading in mMho or mS (these are units used to measure electrical conductivity). As food is added to the water, the concentration of impurities in the form of salts increases and the electrons can find more footholds, and so cross the water faster. Thus the meter reading rises. Of course this is a very simplified explanation, but it should serve to give you an idea of the basics. One other important thing to remember is that as in all things chemical temperature plays an important part. The higher the temperature, the faster the electrons move and the higher the EC reading. This means that that in order to accurately assess your mixtures EC you must record the PPM as mMho (mS) at a specific temperature. As the PPM reading is a conversion from an electrical reading and as each addition of a different salt will alter the electrical properties, in order to obtain an accurate EC reading you will have to use a reference solution of a known value. Because the EC meter you are using will not necessarily have been calibrated for the mix used by the people who prepared your reference solution, these values can be quite inaccurate. In view of this, any reference solution that does not show the EC value in mS, or give you the conversion ratio that was used, is of no use for nutrient evaluation purposes. It is important to note that if the nutrient EC reaches 3,000 PPM (or the meter reads over 4.0mS) your plants will begin to show signs of nutrient deficiency even though they will have an excess. The reasons for this are quite complex, but basically it is because the chemicals dissolved in the solution are competing for the available water and the stronger ones are blocking out some of the weaker ones. This leads to the roots having to work harder to absorb the nutrients. By working harder they have to expend more energy at the expense of growth. If at this time the temperature rises and the water level drops, due to evaporation, your plants will, very probably, die. Probably the most important factor that will affect your plant growth in relation to nutrient uptake is pH. Different types of plant prefer different pH values and it is important to ascertain which the optimum for the species you are growing is. The medium in which you are growing will affect the cation exchange capacity of the plant. This is the ability of the medium to hold nutrients on call for the plant roots to use. Normal soil has a high cation exchange rate (CEC) of between 100 and 200 equivalent units. A number of growing mediums and of course water cultures have a CEC of 0. This means that once a nutrient has passed the roots it cannot be taken up by the plant, and neither will it have any buffering effect. The nutrients, the gasses, the trace elements, the water and the growing medium all have differing electrical charges and are all exchanging positive and negative charges around the roots of the plant. This ionic battle enables the roots to absorb the nutrients it needs to sustain the plant. If the pH is incorrect it stops the particle exchange. This is because the shapes and sizes of the charged particles will be different from the spaces available within the plant root tissue. The pH can be looked at a bit like a Yale lock and key. If all is correct the lock opens if the plant pH and the surrounding pH differ then the lock cannot open. Different plants need different nutrients at differing stages of their growth. These nutrients have different charges and so in order to get the greatest nutrient uptake the pH must be closely monitored. If in doubt about the requirements of your plant try asking the manufacturer of your nutrients for help. After all he made the mix in the first place and so should know all there is to know about it. If your plants are not thriving look at the pH as the primary cause and try to work out which of the nutrients is not being absorbed and why. Wedding Entertainment: How To Choose and Use A Magician at Your Wedding
by minette prada - Monday, 26 November 2007, 12:53 AM
Anyone in the world
By Mark Cairns This article will tell you what you will need to consider when hiring a magician to entertain at your wedding. It helps you to consider when you can best use a magician in your order of events, and how to go about selecting a good magician for your wedding. This information specifically relates to hiring a close-up magician to entertain the adult guests at your wedding. Some magicians specialise in entertaining children, and this can be a great way to keep children occupied throughout the speeches. However, these performers tend to be a lot more readily available, and a bit of asking around will help you source a good quality local childrens entertainer at a reasonable price. Similarly, some magicians specialise in stage presentations, but this sort of presentation is very rarely appropriate for a wedding, and the more ambient style of close-up magic is more generally suitable. Booking a magician who specialises in entertaining adults is a very different proposition - there aren't very many about who do it well, and it can be difficult to know where to start. The first thing to consider should be what you want to achieve by having a magician entertain at your wedding, and determine where this can best fit into your order of events. When To Use A Wedding Magician Close-up magicians are usually used to provide entertainment at two different points in the wedding day. The first is after the ceremony when the magician can mingling with guests while wedding photographs are being taken. The drinks reception is also usually held at this point, and having the magician perform at this stage acts as an excellent ice-breaker. This can then continue with the magician performing at the tables between the courses of the wedding breakfast up until the start of the speeches. The other popular time slot is to have the magician perform during the evening. This means that day guests are entertained after the meal and speeches, and any evening guests are welcomed with a little entertainment to get them in the mood. One thing to bear in mind when using a magician at this stage is how the magic will fit with any music you may have planned. Usually most venues have a separate area away from the dance floor, such as a bar area, and the magician can be placed here to entertain any guests who aren't interested in the dancing, and those who are just taking a break. Or, if there is no separate area, you can have the magician start following the wedding breakfast and perform up until the evening music starts. This helps the day guests to break with the formality of the days events and any evening guests are welcomed with a little entertainment to get them in the mood. Of course there is a lot of flexibility here and a magician experienced in wedding entertainment will be able to work in with your plans for the day. Things To Consider When Using Magicians At A Wedding: Speeches and music are two key traditional aspects of a wedding which should be considered when using wedding magicians. Speeches: No matter how carefully you brief the best man and the father of the bride to keep it brief, often as not speeches will overrun! Many people find it best to make the speeches a natural start or end point for the magic to avoid paying for the magician's waiting time. Music: You will need to consider how your magician will fit in with any music you have planned. Magicians rely on people being able to follow what is being said. Three things can help: having the music at a lower level, having a separate "quiet zone" for the magician to work in, or a large room where one end will be quieter. But if the DJ or Band is expected to be louder, you will get better value for money by changing the timing to avoid a clash. Where To Find A Magician: Avoid using a local Yellow Pages or a similar directory to find a magician for your party. Magicians who perform for adult audiences are a rare breed, and while you may get lucky and find that you have a very good magician in your area, the chances are that you will wind up interviewing magicians who are part time and have very little actual performing experience, or magicians who specialise in performing for children and have very little experience in entertaining adult audiences. Instead, use a web search, or look to find a national directory of entertainers, and cast your net over a good sized geographic base - experienced performers are more than happy to travel to a booking. Choosing The Right Magician For Your Wedding: Once you've drawn up a shortlist, here's what to look at before you finalise your choice. References, References, References! Cast a careful eye over any quotes from previous clients. Are they from recognised and reputable UK companies and identifiable individuals, or could they just have been gathered from friends and family? The ability to astonish should come as standard, but you also need to make sure the references show that the magician you book also has the personality to interact with your guests. Look for someone who is more than just astonishing - hire a magician who is entertaining and, moreover, enjoyable to be around. Experience Plenty of positive references show that you're looking at a magician with broad experience. It can be a good idea to hire a magician who has worked UK-wide and, ideally, internationally because this usually shows a depth of experience. You may also want to consider whether the magician is a full time performer. While there are a number of very good part-timers in the UK who shouldn't be overlooked, the fact that a magician is a full-time performer will generally act as a good indicator of experience and ability. You can't always glean this from a website so it's a good idea to ask. Look to hire a magician with experience with weddings. For example, some specialise in close up magic for adult audiences in hospitality situations. Others have a more general approach, performing at children's parties, as a corporate speaker, on stage, etc. Each of these different performing situations requires different skills and abilities, especially when it comes to audience interaction. Be sure that the references that you rely on relate to events and functions similar to your wedding. Style and manner: Consider what will work well for you. Some acts are based on poking fun at the audience, but, for a day of celebration like a wedding, consider whether it may be more appropriate to look for someone who creates fun for your guests and maintains a more relaxed atmosphere. If you are expecting a wide variety of guests at your event, look for someone with references that indicate a breadth of appeal. Conversely, if your guests are quite similar, for example in age group or background, you may want to hire a magician with references that relate to that particular type of guest. Memberships It is a good idea to hire a magician who is a member of a recognised international magical organisation such as the UK's The Magic Circle. The Magic Circle, in particular, insists on members being tested by examination before being allowed to join. However, don't make membership of such an organisation the sole basis of your decision - this simply indicates a basic level of technical ability. The above information shows how to look at experience, personality and performance style. About the Author This advice was developed by Professional Magician Mark Cairns. Preparation of the Righteous and Wicked to Complete God's Works

By David Becker The righteous people of the LORD GOD carry out the works that the LORD GOD Wills, but often, those works cannot be accomplished until the conditions and times are just right. The knowledge of the timing of the works of the LORD GOD is essential for Christians. It is this timing that allows for the preparation of all of the players, both righteous and wicked, and their actions to come together to ensure the success of the Works for Him. This preparation of players in the unfolding Will of the LORD GOD is exemplified in the story of Esther. She was advised by her father that the Jews were being persecuted and threatened with death by the wicked Haman, and she was in a perfect position to stop it. Esther was married to King Ahasuerus, and he loved her above all others, and had made her Queen. Stillthere was protocol to follow, and just to enter into his presence without being summoned risk a death sentence to her. Esther had to make her husband aware of the wicked acts of his chief Prince Haman, and his threats against the LORD GODs people, but to blurt it out in the wrong time would result in her own death, and the empowerment of the Prince. So Esther began the process of doing a great work for the LORD GOD and saving His People, by letting Him know of her efforts, and her relinquishment of control to His timing. 1. She asked the Jews to fast and pray. Her father, Mordecai, led the Jews to accomplish the fast and bring Gods attention to the movement to protect both himself from the gallows, and the destruction of Gods People. 2. She went to her husband and arranged a great feast for the next two days, to be attended by only her, King Ahasuerus and the wicked prince Haman. Then the timing of God and his preparation of the players begin 1. Ahasuerus was prepared by God to receive the distressing information and understand the deep implications by causing his sleep to be disrupted. Because he was unable to sleep, he commanded the book of records to be brought before him and read. Within those records, was the report of Mordecais loyalty and great actions to honor and protect the King. Ahasueruss heart was moved to reward Mordecais service. 2. The wicked prince Haman was prepared by God to pronounce the reward to be given to Mordecai by allowing Haman to think that that the King was preparing to reward him instead. Haman mistakenly assumed that the King was asking what reward should be given him, when in fact Ahasuerus was preparing to reward Mordecai. Haman recommended that the man in the Kings favor be given glory and authority, and he excitedly prepared to receive those honors. 3. The faithful servant of God, Mordecai, was prepared by Him to receive the promotion to prince, and to lead and protect His people, when the timing of God caused the works of Him to be completed at the hands of Esther. All the while, Esther waited, until the LORD GOD had made the preparations for His Works to be carried out in His time. She prepared the banquet, the King prepared to sleep, Haman prepared to be honored, and Mordacai prepared his people. In Gods time, Mordacai was made prince, and Haman was hung in the gallows that he had ordered to be prepared for Mordacai. Today, I wait in anticipation of a great work of the LORD GODs to be completed, and the restoration of the integrity and honor of one of His people. I have witnessed His preparing many people, some righteous and some wicked, to bring His Work together in a platform that will eventually lead to one of His Works being done. And when I grow impatient for this holy and just act to be completed, I remind myself of the story of Esther, and how critical it is that we allow the timing of the LORD GOD to move at His Will. Its a matter of time, His time, that is going to make the difference, and bring the most glory to His Ways! 2006 David "Bucker" Becker - All Rights Reserved Worldwide. Small Business Marketing Secrets - Your Guide to Getting More Word of Mouth Referrals

Anyone in the world
By Kevin Stirtz When I work with business owners I always ask them where their customers come from. The number one response to my question is: "Most of our business comes from word of mouth." Call me a skeptic but I don't believe it. Over 90% of the people I work with tell me this. It's consistent across all types of businesses and all stages of businesses. It doesn't matter whether they're a new business or an old business. They could be profitable or struggling. They almost all say the same thing. This leads me to believe that some people are living in fantasyland when it comes to their marketing. This can be a dangerous place to live when you're trying to build a successful business. I think the reason I hear this so much is because it's what people want to believe. We all want to think our service or reputation or product is so great that people will line up at our door. It's the old "if you build it they will come" idea. But it's not true. In most businesses, no matter how great you "build it" they will not come. At least they won't come to you until they know about you. That's where effective marketing comes in. Sure, word of mouth is a desirable way to get new customers. But too many business owners forget that word of mouth doesn't just appear out of thin air. You have to create it. And there are just two ways to create it. 1. You use marketing tools to tell people who you are and what you do. 2. You deliver a "wow" experience for your customers so they tell others. A good marketing campaign will create word of mouth. In fact, most word of mouth is created or amplified by effective marketing. (When I say "marketing" I mean anything you do to get the word out. It could be advertising, public relations, special events, salespeople, direct mail, etc.) Some companies are so good they deliver "wow" experiences to their customers. This produces great word of mouth marketing for them. And they deserve it because "wow" does not happen very often. It certainly does not happen in 90% of the businesses. If that many businesses gave us a "wow" experience, we wouldn't consider it a "wow" anymore so we wouldn't talk to our friends about it. A big mistake people make is to separate their marketing tools and treat them like they're completely independent. They think word of mouth marketing happens independently of other marketing. But it's not like that. The most effective marketing uses a combination of tools to deliver your message. It's the combination and variety that gives your message greater impact. So, as you think about how to get new customers, don't kid yourself that most of them come from word of mouth. They probably don't. Instead, think about your marketing this way: A. Decide who you want to reach. B. Create a message they will respond to. C. Find multiple, complementary ways to deliver your message to them. D. Plan to deliver the message multiple times to the same people. E. Budget for the long-term for best results. Do your marketing well to create effective word of mouth marketing for your business. Then "wow" those new customers and you'll create even more. ---------------------------- More customers! More revenue! More profits! That's what Kevin Stirtz helps companies create.
